lee dae hee - she's highly effective in dramatic scenes though she has to tone down in her comedic antics. she should lessen the excessive batting of her extra- long eyelashes . sort of over- reacted in the first few episodes of my girl, thus making joo yu rin looking less natural and superficial early in the series.
han chae young - she could have dug deeper into her emotion in some scenes in dgch, should lessen her pouting of lips, tends to look blank at times, so more effort should be exerted in finding the right emotion to distinguish if she's worried, sad, frustrated, longing etc...but she definitely has made her mark in this series as people now often refer her as chun hyang rather than chae young.
lee dong wook - i was waiting impatiently for gong chan to finally hit me in the entire 16 episodes, no doubt he's a looker, but i find myself figuring out in one scene whether he was jealous or just plainly annoyed at yoo rin. the series started and ended without him leaving a mark on me except for his scene -stealing red lips... he should have more control over his facial expressions when crying coz he tends to look distorted especially in the last few eps. a long way to go before he receives a grand bell .
jae hee - as mongryong, he gave more than what is required from him , we laughed when he was being naughty, we cried when he was breaking down, we cheered when he was triumphant. enough of raves...the one thing id like him to get rid of would be his tendency to have outrageous hairdos, he actually looked like ace ventura in a few college scenes.
lee joon ki - his feminine looks seems to work to his disadvantage, i was annoyed at how hard he tries to shed tears in most scenes but in vain, the tear ducts just wont give in... just ends up only with a red nose.... the writers didnt develop his character too well, making me wonder why the heck was he so affected with gong chan - yoo rin affair when his character didnt do much with the latter.
park si yeon - she's pretty but not bad enough for me to despise her ...she needs to work on her crying scenes coz there were times i thought she was actually smiling...and she definitely has to do away those dangling earrings, i often ended up looking at the design, the color, the length, forgetting there's a person delivering her dialogues...
uhm tae woong - unlike lee joon ki's character, i believe byun hak do's was more developed, from the start when he was smitten by chun hyang's charm , to being obssessed later on. he was so effective in bringing chills to the viewers when he turned into a stalker.
" good person with good intention getting rejected turning into a psycho " type of role fits utw so well that one would think its tailor made for him. he not only acted it out, he made the viewers feel he is actually byun hak do.
park shi eun - chae rin was every inch of a villainess, an effective actress, but she lost steam somewhere in the latter part of the series, when the writers just decided to focus on byun hak do to do the nasty job, eventually making her a weak character. sad thing her role wasnt given consistency and just soften up in the end without much explanation.
mongryong's dad in dgch/ butler in mg - i like him more in dgch because of his soft side beneath his tough appearance...still remember vividly how he let mongryong fled away in a bar when police were catching up on him...in mg...he was stiff and cold...and the hair was disastrous...
mongryong's mom / gongchan's aunt - she was given much exposure together with the butler, theirs was another love angle that was played up in mg, but it was annoying to see her not acting her age, flirting with the butler, and dressing up in those crazy outfits, it almost made me nauseous.
summary
my girl is a fun- filled series with few traces of dgch, just like dgch having traces of sweet 18, attic cat and full house. dgch was a roller coaster ride with maximum "laugh out loud scenes" guaranteed while my girl is funny in it's own right. to sum it up, i feel dgch was more dramatic in having twists such as mongryong getting set up,chun hyang sacrificing herself for mongryong, and mongryong changing his old ways for his love for chunhyang. my girl seems to lack in dramatic highlights, and the twists dont seem to have a big effect on the story, thus lesser impact on viewers. yoo rin and gong chan looks good together on screen, but i wished somehow they could have gotten a better actor who can match lee dae hee's intensity. and yes, with yoo rin's curlyhair and one sided pony tail, one cant help but be reminded of song hye gyo from full house . there were many parallelisms, from scenes, ( breaking mirrors/ glass, elevator scenes, airport scenes....) to the supporting roles ( there were the usual best friends, the antagonists, a male and a female of course...) both ost were good but i have to go for my girl's...its one of the reasons why this series has made a mark on me...i love the tracks " never said goodbye ", and another love song that's being used for the 2 leads...
in the end, i believe these 2 series will always be entwined because their makers are just one and the same...even the cast have been made to cross over as seen with the parents of mong ryong playing new roles here in my girl, and in the last episode where han chae young and jae hee made a brief appearance.
