두번째 프러포즈 (The Second Proposal) might have been surpassed by better Dramas about adultery and single mothers giving the middle finger to society, yet it was still a breezy and entertaining show, mixing serious issues with hilarious solutions to Oh Yeon-Soo's marital problems. If PD Kim can bring back some of that style for this show, it should make for pretty fun viewing.

At first I heard the Hong sisters -- of 마이걸 (My Girl) fame -- were writing this, but it's actually Lee Sook-Jin from 단팥빵 (Sweet Buns) who wrote the script. Can't say I was a big fan of that show, but the average acting was also to blame. Anyway, she hasn't been involved in any other major show, so even though she's not as experienced as the Hong sisters, it shouldn't be too bad.

I'm not really a fan of Jae Hee, as I think he hasn't improved one bit since his 해변으로 가다 (Bloody Beach) days, but I'm clearly in the minority here, as the piling offers after 빈집 (3-Iron) and 쾌걸춘향 (Sassy Chunhyang) show. Still, even though I think he's vastly overrated as a dramatic actor, dumb and goofy comedy is certainly his forte -- too bad Chunhyang didn't focus enough on that -- and he should do fine here. With Han Ji-Min, it's the opposite: she clearly showed she can handle Drama, with her performances in 부활 (Rebirth) and 청연 (Blue Swallow), but can she do comedy? Most of her other roles were along the damsel in distress canon, so I don't know. But with a supporting cast like that, who cares if she'll be a little awkward at first? Son Byung-Ho is absolute GOLD in everything he does, let alone Byun Hee-Bong of a little film called 괴물 (The Host).

So Jae Hee plays a 양아치 (third rate gangster), who just inherited a kindergarten from his dying mother. Of course his vocation in life is spending his days teaching kids the fine arts of drawing circles on a paper, like his mentor Guvna Ah~nold in Kindergarten Cop. But alas, it's not so easy. Before he can get to this treasure trove of education, he has to go through an intensive 6 months program to become a teacher (mommy's dream?). Once there, he meets Han Ji-Min -- a poor helpless teacher -- and the romantic shenanigans starts. Of course this is nothing new, but the idea of seeing Son Byung-Ho and Byun Hee-Bong (respectively a gangster and a teacher, I bet?) alongside the younger leads makes me salivate.
RATINGS POTENTIAL: 8
The only big problem is the fact Goodbye Solo is recording pretty bad ratings -- around 10% -- so it might take a while before people realize there's something new airing. Otherwise, it shouldn't be a problem reaching 20 to 25%.

Lee Mi-Sook Returns To Tv with 위대한 유산 (The Great Inheritance)

My usual luck... we presented the upcoming Drama 위대한 유산 (The Great Inheritance) last week, but in the meantime new additions to the cast have emerged. First, it seems like Jae Hee dropped out of the project, replaced by Kim Jae-Won, who joins Han Ji-Min of 부활 (Rebirth) for the leading role. In my book, that's an even worse choice for the 'third rate thug' role, but then again, the rest of the cast looks good enough to overcome all that.
Yes, because the rest of the cast looks like this: Byun Hee-Bong, who turns everything he touches into gold -- latest probably being Bong Joon-Ho's 괴물 (The Host); the great Son Byung-Ho, last seen playing the uber-evil presence in 야수 (Running Wild) and who -- as I expected -- is indeed playing a gang boss; Jang Hyun-Sung, a regular of Song Il-Gon films (or better, a regular of little arthouse films, period). And I saved the best for last: Lee Mi-Sook is coming back to TV after a 13 Months absence. Lee's last appearance was in the SBS Drama 사랑공감 (Sympathy For Love). Lee's role -- as the director of the kindergarten Kim Jae-Won inherits from his dying mother -- will mark her return to comedy after a few melodramas. Producers Olive Nine announced script rehearsal will start from April 11, shooting two days later, and the show will start broadcasting from May 3 on KBS2, after the end of 굿바이 솔로 (Goodbye Solo). Again, huge reservations about the male lead, but the rest of the cast is gold, so this might turn out better than expected.
what a sad day for all the jae hee fans...from what i understand from his latest message was that he was bound for japan on the 1st of may, thus having conflicts with the airing of the great heritage. hoepe the management can find a better project for him soon. we miss him dearly.
