this is jae hee's first major role in a series, and what a way to impress everyone with his comedic antics, as an immature delinquent , in- depth performance as a man fighting for love , and showcasing his figthing skills in some action scenes...much has been said about this series, raves and praises from the cast to the writers and directors, and even the ost especially the local theme was considered as a hit.
please do post your impressions on delightful girl chun hyang here ...we will be glad to read your thoughts...

I love this series sooo much that I've watched it more than 5 times...this is really addicting!!! I really loved their character!
ImSmiley
^^ same here, i know i watch it over 10 times. i just love this drama so much it's my fav k-drama. i love jaehee's character in here, it's him and his chracter that's making me love the drama. i love his face expressions too.
sassyging
weeh... like everybody else... he did an outstanding performance here...this is my top k-series ever...
Raymond
I only watched this once. but will definitely watch this again.
This kdrama was really popular with the youngsters when it was aired during the Winter break. And perhaps because it followed the terrible heartbreaking "I'm Sorry, I Love You", the audience could do with a good dose of comic relief. It combined the charms of the up and coming Jae Hee with the Barbie Doll of South Korea, Han Chae Young. I was really bothered by HCY's perfectly constructed face. There is something about HCY's face that reminds me of a mouse, especially when she curls her lips. She really looked like a doll. Maybe it is just me, can't live with manipulated perfection. And she had a figure that did not match with her cute face (let's just say that she is a little too top-heavy). But yet somehow it did not stop me from enjoying this kdrama. Chun-hyang is such a strong spirited girl, nothing gets her down. As a matter of fact, she is always saving herself from dire straits. She is totally smart and bright! I think in that way HCY fitted the character very well.
In many ways the story of this kdrama is pretty flat with conventional kdrama elements. I kept asking myself why am I motivated to finish this (I have recently been crowned by a fellow addict to be Ms Incomplete i.e. not completing a lot of the kdramas which I started on, so that shows it takes some kind of draw to keep me going), and the only reason I concluded is because of the chase!
Yes, the chase for the wonderful heroine. Her brains saves her from every terrible situation and she is the one doing the rescuing instead of the men. I was chasing for Chun-hyang with the men! "Sassy Girl Chun-hyang's" attraction is that it celebrate unwavering love. And the modern interpretation brings a fresh and cute twist to an age old love story.
Although this story is a modern interpretation of an ancient tale, I was glad that the writers did not give totally black and white characters to the story. There were many times where you may find the acting and expressions exaggerated and comic like e.g. Matrix type of fighting scenes. But all these should be taken in as good fun as this is typical of kdrama comedies. The pace was also wonderful, just when I worry whether it was going to drag, it steps up and before I know it, I have completed a some more episodes.
Jae Hee gained a lot of attention when he won the Best Newcomer in the recent Blue Dragon awards for his role in director Kim Ki-duk's "3-Iron" a.k.a. "Empty House". So I believe a big reason for the popularity of this kdrama is due to the attraction of this up and coming youngster. Jae Hee has pretty good comic talent! I can't help laughing every time he is running e.g. running from his father, running to CH, running for his life! And the big grin he gives every time he gives his smirk rejewel of asias to CH, and disappointed expressions when CH ignores him were really funny. Such a sweetie, you will be charmed! Jae Hee's problem arises when he had to deliver the sob scenes. They were just not as heartbreaking as I would have expected it to be, kind of below my expectations. And I could not stand his image when he was a prosecutor. Those glasses and shiny suits, and that hair just made Jae Hee looked like a cheap second hand car salesman.
The writers made the modern Chun-hyang strong, warm, smart, hardworking and pretty. There were no scenes of Chun-hyang sobbing quietly over her sad predicament. She strives and succeed during trying moments, and even had spare time to tutor the trouble-making MR, that he makes it to the most difficult course in the most prestigious university in South Korea. It seemed that anything she touches turn for the better (except for maybe, HD). What a wonderful woman!
HCY is totally cute too in her role. She got this high pitch voice (which I did not enjoy) that matched her likable character and she made a compatible and lovable pairing with Jae Hee. Something about this couple, when they stand together, you just want them to end up with each other. Her acting was ok, but I think the character was so likeable that it was not really difficult to deliver. I found HCY had difficulty executing the sad scenes too. Especially the ones when she had to kick MR out of her life because of her pact with HD. She just did not seem devastated enough when required, and not cruel enough when needed.
The draw of Eom Tae Woong in this kdrama surprised many. HD is a selfish and calculated man. A level-headed and shrewd business man. He has a cold exterior with strong resolve in getting what he wants. Unfortunately, that resolve translated into something vindictive because of his unrequitted feelings for CH. There is this mysterious and dangerous aura that surrounds ETW. Any girl will wish for to be rescued by such a cool strong man. I wished for HD to be the moody brooding macho man, who never smiles and just stay silent by CH. ETW definitely needs to work on his happy expressions.
Park Shi Eun as Hong Chae-rin, MR's first love threw in a credible effort. Nothing really to shout about but a complementary performance to the story. My only complain is that I did not hate her as much as I would like to.
My personal favourite in this kdrama is MR's father. He is one wise old man. The writers peppered this strict father image with multiple comic moments e.g. slicing of the apple, crying over the grandchildren hoax were really hilarious. In my honest opinion, the dad put in the best acting!
Overall I would give an above average rating for the acting. But the attraction is in the story and the nice pace which breezes you through from beginning to the end. Sometimes it is nice not to get too complicated and confused characters in a kdrama. For once I shan't complain about one-dimensional characters!
My favourites
=============
-The high school drama production of "Romeo and Juliet" where MR was the nanny!! That part was really funny!
-MR's father practising his sword and the apple slicing practise
-At the ski resort when CH caught CR kissing MR and HD holds her from the scene. Later when CH cries alone and HD leaves her alone to her sorrow
-MR father chasing MR and promise not to hit him after MR sold the sword
-HD proposing to CH
-CH tells MR to go to CR and to come back
-The hug at the bus-stop
-The pregnancy incident
-CH sits next to a drunk MR and cries
-CH leaves HD with her plan
-CH and MR in weddding clothes(both of them)
My dislikes
===========
- CH's repetitive "If you do this you die" expressions
- When HD smiles

Yeah, I could really understand what you meant, since I'm still in the daze when it comes to this drama. It really got to me, you know?
I find it kinda strange, since I've watched My Girl (from the same director and scriptwriter as Delightful Girl), Goong, Full House, Green Rose, Sweet 18 etc., but none of them has captured me like Delightful Girl does. This drama is one of the few dramas where I really like the main female character, the main male character and the storyline in total. With other dramas it's like either I'm satisfied with the main female character, but dislike the main male character, or storyline. In another one I would like the storyline, but didn't feel anything about the main male and female characters in it, and etc. It's really rare that I'm completely satisfied with all the three catagories in total from any drama that I've watched, like I do Delightful Girl.

SGCH is the best series I've ever watched!!!! I think I won't get tired of watching this again & again & again. I don't know...but I think HCY & JH has a very good chemistry, they both portrayed their characters really well. It's convincing, it will really make you feel that it's really wonderful to be in love!!!
Each characters seemed natural and real...as if you are not watching a series...
My day is not complete if I don't watch this series...In a day, I make it a point to watch an episode.
It's actually a good stress-reliever, this series could always give you a good laugh!

Still,I can't understand why this drama is quite underrated..I watched My Girl, from the same pds,I loved it,very funny and romantic..DGCH,even if the theme is really very similar,is stilla better:the plot more catching and funnier..can't understand!!
polabola
^^ it's not really underrated, it's the 9th most watched series last year and indosiar, an indonesian forum, the sassy girl thread is the fifth already, also in popcornfor2, a thai forum, the SGCh thread reached 749 pages. A lot of first timers also saw the light in this series. It's underrated with some of the netizens and some ignorant people think that the leads are not eye candy. lol
lualm
actually my girl came after a year dgch was aired...so it follows that the writers patterned mg after dgch...but i must say the latter has more angst and exciting twists ...and jae hee really made the big difference...

I haven't watched "my girl" for now, I'm really amused by SGCH and wonderful life(both are really funny!).

I had to answer these questions before watching another serie.. and I did.
1. What do you think of the show?
superb
2. How did you feel while whatching it?
I felt glued to the screen.. with a warm feeling inside.. their world was just like a dream world.
3. Did you like the ending?
yeah.. but one thing ticked me.. when they fell from the production company building.. I mean.. the whole show was very close to reality..
but they fell from that very high building and just got up fine.. I was like.. "WTH?"
but of course if anything happened to any of them I'd have cursed the production team
I like happy ending..
4. How did you feel after finishing the series?
after watching the series I felt that I want to see more of the actors works.. and more K-series.. I liked their approach to TV series and how to portray problems, emotions, and relationships.
5. Can you analyze the characters one by one? Like, hate, and why?
Chun-Hyang:
A smart and strong girl.. the only time she thought about herself without thinking of Mong-Ryoung was when she decided to merry him all in her own..
Thats it.. she always think of his happiness before hers.. that was great even if it hurts him but she didn't know he loved her.
she went through lots of hardships through out the series but it only made her stronger
It was painful to watch her looking at MR back.. and letting go of him in the middle of the series..
At last! she deserve happiness.
Mong-Ryong:
what can I say? how many Mong-Ryong are there?
First he was a stupid jerk, then a cute idiot, a cluless boy in love, confused guy, then he knew what he wanted and showed determination.. finally DA Lee Mong-Ryong!!
quite a progress!
I liked the actor, too. very talented actor to pull off all those emotions and faces.. even the nanny!!! I swear I didn't recognize him the first time I saw him in that outfit.
Ji-Hyuk:
I have already talked about him a lot. I maight just copey and paste
ok, lets start:
"Ji Hyuk is DA MAN!"
"I saw that during the series, Mong-Ryong and Ji-Hyuk characters developed more than any other..
It' took Mong-ryong quite a bit of time though and he is still a trouble maker
but Ji-Hyuk became a man since he started to work in the movie store..
maybe thats the reason, but anyway.. Ji-Hyuk is D MAN!"
So, who'd have expected that the fancy-colored boxer's brat will develope to this fine man? (O_o)
Loyality is his keyword and he knows exactly what he wants and he just do it without hesitation, confusing or looking back.
Always trying to bring the couple together and help them make up and ease their misunderstandings
by talking to them and encouraging them to be nice to each others, of course, hooking them up alone as well
His top performance was in Ep.14. absolutely!
Helping Mong-Ryong, bringing Chun-Hyang to the bar, lecturing Chun-Hyang, and then carrying Mong-Ryong back.
What a friend!!
Dan-Hee:
She just got everything wrong.. It is hopeless with her.. her dream world is upside down!
I can't imagine a girl since high school to college can't go anywhere without her mirror!!
The only credit I can give her is that she is the first to understand Hak-Do feeling and explain it to Chun-Hyang.
Hak-Do:
At first: A prince charming! though he has twisted methods at work..
but anyway, I didn't like that actor, whome he sent to the army, in the first place to be distrubted at this event.
In the middle: he was still ok.. if even Mong-Ryong didn't realise his feeling for Chun-Hyang..
It was only right for him to care for the one he loved and wished she will return his love oneday.
But, Later, when Everyone knew that those two loved eachother, he should had stepped back as a gentelman but thanks to Chae-Rin he chosed the wrong way.
Also, Chun-Hyang didn't turn him down properly, or better, couldn't. He was presistant and she has a lot of respect and depts to him.
His presistance is understoodable, though. because I can't imagine someone at his age who seems to have lived a lonely life
and all the people around him just want to get close to him for his money and position,
Finally, falling in love with someone that remind him that he is actually a human being, and then let go.
especially in the days were she wasn't happy but suffering.
wow, this character is complicated
Though, I really wanted to strangle him when Chun-Hyang told him he won't win anything by his doings.
he answered 'at least I'd be alive'
Hello?!!! what the hell is that? is that his interpretation for love after all? well, his brain must be messed up.
Chae-Rin:
This girl pissed me off big time by her wicked tricks and her influance on Hak-Do.
She had a Boyfriend, some other guy confess to her and she dump him in away there is no hope left for him ("You are a little brother, not a man")!!!
She got dumped by her BF and only after that she returned to demand his heart back. Oi! did you put him on the bench as a last choice or something when everything goes wrong?
I hate her when she orders him around and try to tell him what his OWN feeling is.. I hate her everytime she sees CH and do one of her damn tricks. and stealing her designs!!
Though, being unable to see Mong-Ryong get hurt is the only good thing that soften my hate for her a tiny bit..
Maybe it was good that she went and told CH but I wonder how dare she!! she plot with Hak-Do and then put the responsibility on CH alone!! damn her!
Mong-Ryong Father:
I had just to pass the first episode to like him once I understood he was looking for Mong-Ryong good..
a wise man and understanding.. I like him very much.. in the comic part, too.
Mong-Ryong Mother:
The most annoying character in the show!
ditto
Chun-Hyang Mother:
Although she caused the couple some troubles by her doings but she did what she did from well intentions.
She tried her best to bring them together and we can't forget that she brought up chun hyang to a fine girl in her own.
Director Baik:
The real Vilian!
corrupted from start to end.
6. Are there any lessons learned from it?
To set a goal. In a way, I'm like Mong-Ryong. or maybe thats for everyone.
If I set a goal, I run hard to it. If I don't, I just keep floating around.
and I realised that even if I sometimes did set some goals.
They were all small that I can get them in a short period of time and continue floating until I get something else.
But now, I ask myself, what I really want to be after lets say, 5 years? I want to acomplish something and I want to walk looking forward in a clear path.
right now, I'm living my life day by day looking around. this not the way I want.
This realisation didn't come only from this Drama. After watching it I only figured how I'm like Mong-Ryong, If I set a goal, I run hard to it.
but the real importance of the goal in life and that I really should think seriusly about what I want to achive in my life and set my goals and distination.
This is from Honey & Clover. It's true the first 3 episodes were comedic but from there on, it was a real DRAMA.
Around this time too, thanks to the chit chatting we were having in between, I learned how to and that I have to enjoy the little things happening everyday..
Because when I was wondering why I'm not able to move forward I discovered piles of "anger" inside me about several people and many situations..
it's no use to cast that anger now or later.. but appreciating the little things and gestures cure my soul bit by bit.
Also, from our chit-chat, I realised that I'm always demanding from you and everyone else to accept the differences of opinions, personality, and dreams between us.
But in the end, me too, have to accept them.
7. What do you think about comparing this series with recent Kuwaity, American, Syrian, or Egyptian series and movies?
Well, you should know that it's been a while since I watched a Kuwaity series and the reason isn't that I can't (which is for a degree true, I can't watch any kind of series at this house) but I really got fed up with the crap of money and corrupted souls and principals, drugs, crazy people.
Syrian, I'm interested in some of them out there but I can't anyway.
Egyptian stuff are out of the question.. after Ra'fat al-hajjan, my first series is the one that came this year about the same idea.. and is writtin by an auther me and my sister are fans of his novels and stories.
American, I like movies adopted from very old novels, I like fictional movies like lord of the rings and harry potter, I like political movies because I'm always interested to know how the Other think of us. and I like historical movies.
Now If I put "Delightful Girl Chun-Hyang" in one hand and compare it to the others I'll say:
1- Innocence, Innocence, Innocence!! How all the above (except 'some' American fictional and old-novels-adopted movies' lack in this area is unbelievable. and how this series is just full of it.
2- Pure love. Be it Chun-hyang --> Mong-Ryong, Mong-Ryong --> Chun-Hyang, Hak-Do --> Chun Hyang, Mong-Ryong --> Chae-Rin, and Chae-Rin --> Mong-Ryong.
First thier love wasn't for Beauty, nor money, nor class.. It was a feeling that grow in them for several reasons while interacting with each other that resulted to get interrested in ones personality or realisation that the other is what they really need or the one that they can't live without.
and through the whole series, not once they thought of getting more than the others to accept and return their love.. Chun-Hyang was even satisfied by the happiness of her beloved alone.
Well, until the lovely couple finally resolved their misunderstandings and hooked together, they started thinking of "weird" things, which was only right since they have already passed the first stage.
3- ADDICTIVE!
I can't think of anything else but it's unique, you can just put all your worries at the door and lose your self watching it and then.. TA DA!!! welcome to reality. but you get that feeling.. I just watched something awesome
L4E
Haha what a mega post it was!
If you read it all I rise my hat!
and the big news is....................
I PASSED!!!!
and I got to see another series.. guess which one
MY GIRL!!!
OMG! I'm sooooo happy!
I'm at episode 2 now *dances from happiness*
polabola
^^ I read your review and I'm smiling like crazy because that's how I exactly felt after watching the series and I'm still having a hang over, and I agree with all that's written. This series mixed drama, comedy, suspense very well
My Girl is enjoyable. I loved it because it has bits and pieces of SGCH (from the same director and writers). Lee Da Hae (the lead) is a great actress from being able to pull of a series character in Green Rose and a totally wacky and happy go lucky character in My Girl...the best thing about this series? familiar faces from SGCH like Mong Ryong's parents and the happy couple from SGCH themselves hehehe.
L4E
I always had this thought in mind but to some reason I always forget it when I write!
How come Chun-Hyang always complaining about Mong-Ryong board when it was clear the poor guy was losing weight through the show.. :S
Yeah polabola, the lead actress is great!! hahaha took me off guard several times buy her *smartness* hehehe
ilaria82
U'll surely like My girl more and more!!It was my first k-drama and it'll always be in my heart!!Also because I'm totally in love with Lee Jun Ki,eheh^^ I agree with Pola:My Girl often reminds of DCGH!!Well,I guess it's because DGCH is a masterpiece, eheh
wintersky18
Wow! L4E...That was a such a great evaluation for the drama. Yeah , i really agree with you it's really addictive.heheheh
So you're going to watch My Girl...hmmm, i recently finished watching that drama. It's also good, MG and SGCH has the same production team...so get ready to laugh your heart out. Some scenes are quite funny and somehow resembles SGCH's scenes.
