actually my girl came after a year dgch was aired...so it follows that the writers patterned mg after dgch...but i must say the latter has more angst and exciting twists ...and jae hee really made the big difference...
I agree. A lot of people also watched MG because they did a very good job on DGCH so really kudos to DGCH and to JH lol
I had to answer these questions before watching another serie.. and I did.
1. What do you think of the show?
superb
2. How did you feel while whatching it?
I felt glued to the screen.. with a warm feeling inside.. their world was just like a dream world.
3. Did you like the ending?
yeah.. but one thing ticked me.. when they fell from the production company building.. I mean.. the whole show was very close to reality..
but they fell from that very high building and just got up fine.. I was like.. "WTH?"
but of course if anything happened to any of them I'd have cursed the production team
I like happy ending..
4. How did you feel after finishing the series?
after watching the series I felt that I want to see more of the actors works.. and more K-series.. I liked their approach to TV series and how to portray problems, emotions, and relationships.
5. Can you analyze the characters one by one? Like, hate, and why?
Chun-Hyang:
A smart and strong girl.. the only time she thought about herself without thinking of Mong-Ryoung was when she decided to merry him all in her own..
Thats it.. she always think of his happiness before hers.. that was great even if it hurts him but she didn't know he loved her.
she went through lots of hardships through out the series but it only made her stronger
It was painful to watch her looking at MR back.. and letting go of him in the middle of the series..
At last! she deserve happiness.
Mong-Ryong:
what can I say? how many Mong-Ryong are there?
First he was a stupid jerk, then a cute idiot, a cluless boy in love, confused guy, then he knew what he wanted and showed determination.. finally DA Lee Mong-Ryong!!
quite a progress!
I liked the actor, too. very talented actor to pull off all those emotions and faces.. even the nanny!!! I swear I didn't recognize him the first time I saw him in that outfit.
Ji-Hyuk:
I have already talked about him a lot. I maight just copey and paste
ok, lets start:
"Ji Hyuk is DA MAN!"
"I saw that during the series, Mong-Ryong and Ji-Hyuk characters developed more than any other..
It' took Mong-ryong quite a bit of time though and he is still a trouble maker
but Ji-Hyuk became a man since he started to work in the movie store..
maybe thats the reason, but anyway.. Ji-Hyuk is D MAN!"
So, who'd have expected that the fancy-colored boxer's brat will develope to this fine man? (O_o)
Loyality is his keyword and he knows exactly what he wants and he just do it without hesitation, confusing or looking back.
Always trying to bring the couple together and help them make up and ease their misunderstandings
by talking to them and encouraging them to be nice to each others, of course, hooking them up alone as well
His top performance was in Ep.14. absolutely!
Helping Mong-Ryong, bringing Chun-Hyang to the bar, lecturing Chun-Hyang, and then carrying Mong-Ryong back.
What a friend!!
Dan-Hee:
She just got everything wrong.. It is hopeless with her.. her dream world is upside down!
I can't imagine a girl since high school to college can't go anywhere without her mirror!!
The only credit I can give her is that she is the first to understand Hak-Do feeling and explain it to Chun-Hyang.
Hak-Do:
At first: A prince charming! though he has twisted methods at work..
but anyway, I didn't like that actor, whome he sent to the army, in the first place to be distrubted at this event.
In the middle: he was still ok.. if even Mong-Ryong didn't realise his feeling for Chun-Hyang..
It was only right for him to care for the one he loved and wished she will return his love oneday.
But, Later, when Everyone knew that those two loved eachother, he should had stepped back as a gentelman but thanks to Chae-Rin he chosed the wrong way.
Also, Chun-Hyang didn't turn him down properly, or better, couldn't. He was presistant and she has a lot of respect and depts to him.
His presistance is understoodable, though. because I can't imagine someone at his age who seems to have lived a lonely life
and all the people around him just want to get close to him for his money and position,
Finally, falling in love with someone that remind him that he is actually a human being, and then let go.
especially in the days were she wasn't happy but suffering.
wow, this character is complicated
Though, I really wanted to strangle him when Chun-Hyang told him he won't win anything by his doings.
he answered 'at least I'd be alive'
Hello?!!! what the hell is that? is that his interpretation for love after all? well, his brain must be messed up.
Chae-Rin:
This girl pissed me off big time by her wicked tricks and her influance on Hak-Do.
She had a Boyfriend, some other guy confess to her and she dump him in away there is no hope left for him ("You are a little brother, not a man")!!!
She got dumped by her BF and only after that she returned to demand his heart back. Oi! did you put him on the bench as a last choice or something when everything goes wrong?
I hate her when she orders him around and try to tell him what his OWN feeling is.. I hate her everytime she sees CH and do one of her damn tricks. and stealing her designs!!
Though, being unable to see Mong-Ryong get hurt is the only good thing that soften my hate for her a tiny bit..
Maybe it was good that she went and told CH but I wonder how dare she!! she plot with Hak-Do and then put the responsibility on CH alone!! damn her!
Mong-Ryong Father:
I had just to pass the first episode to like him once I understood he was looking for Mong-Ryong good..
a wise man and understanding.. I like him very much.. in the comic part, too.
Mong-Ryong Mother:
The most annoying character in the show!
ditto
Chun-Hyang Mother:
Although she caused the couple some troubles by her doings but she did what she did from well intentions.
She tried her best to bring them together and we can't forget that she brought up chun hyang to a fine girl in her own.
Director Baik:
The real Vilian!
corrupted from start to end.
6. Are there any lessons learned from it?
To set a goal. In a way, I'm like Mong-Ryong. or maybe thats for everyone.
If I set a goal, I run hard to it. If I don't, I just keep floating around.
and I realised that even if I sometimes did set some goals.
They were all small that I can get them in a short period of time and continue floating until I get something else.
But now, I ask myself, what I really want to be after lets say, 5 years? I want to acomplish something and I want to walk looking forward in a clear path.
right now, I'm living my life day by day looking around. this not the way I want.
This realisation didn't come only from this Drama. After watching it I only figured how I'm like Mong-Ryong, If I set a goal, I run hard to it.
but the real importance of the goal in life and that I really should think seriusly about what I want to achive in my life and set my goals and distination.
This is from Honey & Clover. It's true the first 3 episodes were comedic but from there on, it was a real DRAMA.
Around this time too, thanks to the chit chatting we were having in between, I learned how to and that I have to enjoy the little things happening everyday..
Because when I was wondering why I'm not able to move forward I discovered piles of "anger" inside me about several people and many situations..
it's no use to cast that anger now or later.. but appreciating the little things and gestures cure my soul bit by bit.
Also, from our chit-chat, I realised that I'm always demanding from you and everyone else to accept the differences of opinions, personality, and dreams between us.
But in the end, me too, have to accept them.
7. What do you think about comparing this series with recent Kuwaity, American, Syrian, or Egyptian series and movies?
Well, you should know that it's been a while since I watched a Kuwaity series and the reason isn't that I can't (which is for a degree true, I can't watch any kind of series at this house) but I really got fed up with the crap of money and corrupted souls and principals, drugs, crazy people.
Syrian, I'm interested in some of them out there but I can't anyway.
Egyptian stuff are out of the question.. after Ra'fat al-hajjan, my first series is the one that came this year about the same idea.. and is writtin by an auther me and my sister are fans of his novels and stories.
American, I like movies adopted from very old novels, I like fictional movies like lord of the rings and harry potter, I like political movies because I'm always interested to know how the Other think of us. and I like historical movies.
Now If I put "Delightful Girl Chun-Hyang" in one hand and compare it to the others I'll say:
1- Innocence, Innocence, Innocence!! How all the above (except 'some' American fictional and old-novels-adopted movies' lack in this area is unbelievable. and how this series is just full of it.
2- Pure love. Be it Chun-hyang --> Mong-Ryong, Mong-Ryong --> Chun-Hyang, Hak-Do --> Chun Hyang, Mong-Ryong --> Chae-Rin, and Chae-Rin --> Mong-Ryong.
First thier love wasn't for Beauty, nor money, nor class.. It was a feeling that grow in them for several reasons while interacting with each other that resulted to get interrested in ones personality or realisation that the other is what they really need or the one that they can't live without.
and through the whole series, not once they thought of getting more than the others to accept and return their love.. Chun-Hyang was even satisfied by the happiness of her beloved alone.
Well, until the lovely couple finally resolved their misunderstandings and hooked together, they started thinking of "weird" things, which was only right since they have already passed the first stage.
3- ADDICTIVE!
I can't think of anything else but it's unique, you can just put all your worries at the door and lose your self watching it and then.. TA DA!!! welcome to reality. but you get that feeling.. I just watched something awesome
^^ I read your review and I'm smiling like crazy because that's how I exactly felt after watching the series and I'm still having a hang over, and I agree with all that's written. This series mixed drama, comedy, suspense very well
My Girl is enjoyable. I loved it because it has bits and pieces of SGCH (from the same director and writers). Lee Da Hae (the lead) is a great actress from being able to pull of a series character in Green Rose and a totally wacky and happy go lucky character in My Girl...the best thing about this series? familiar faces from SGCH like Mong Ryong's parents and the happy couple from SGCH themselves hehehe.
U'll surely like My girl more and more!!It was my first k-drama and it'll always be in my heart!!Also because I'm totally in love with Lee Jun Ki,eheh^^ I agree with Pola:My Girl often reminds of DCGH!!Well,I guess it's because DGCH is a masterpiece, eheh
Wow! L4E...That was a such a great evaluation for the drama. Yeah , i really agree with you it's really addictive.heheheh
So you're going to watch My Girl...hmmm, i recently finished watching that drama. It's also good, MG and SGCH has the same production team...so get ready to laugh your heart out. Some scenes are quite funny and somehow resembles SGCH's scenes.
